Week-1

Jan 1 (Thur) New Years day hike to Nesika-Class B

Join me on this traditional hike to our lodge in the Gorge. Start the new year with a good hike, going up along Multnomah creek past several waterfalls and having lunch at the warm lodge. Trail condition can be icy so bring along some kind of foot traction device and poles. Prepare for the weather. Hike is 8 miles with 1800' elevation gain.

Jan 2-4 (Fri-Sun) Tyee Open

After all the holiday parties come enjoy a quiet weekend among the snow covered trees sitting by a warm fire. Call by the 31 of December to reserve your spot. Meals cooked; Sat breakfast and dinner, and Sunday breakfast. Lodge will be close by noon on Sunday.

We begin our hike at 9:30 am and hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, somewhere in the Portland metropolitan area, often in Forest Park. We then have lunch at a nearby cafe.

Jan 11 (Sun) Alpine Outing Meeting

The traditional Alpine Wilderness Outing in August is a wonderful event. In order for the Alpine Outing to happen in 2015 and beyond, we need Alpine enthusiasts to step up to the plate and get actively involved. Come join us to discuss what we can do to keep our Trails Club Alpine Outing alive and well. Everyone is welcome!
Date: Sunday, Jan. 11th. Time: 2 pm to 4 pm.

Jan 14 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B

We begin our hike at 9:30 am and hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, somewhere in the Portland metropolitan area, often in Forest Park. We then have lunch at a nearby cafe.
Depart: 9:30 AM from Friendly House on NW 26th between Savier and Thurman and will go through northwest Portland to the Willamette and over the bridges.

Jan 15 (Thur) Adventures and Travel, Pacific NW Search and Rescue

Our guest speaker, Deborah Cherachanko, is returning one again to enlighten us on winter safety, and the mysteries of her search and rescue pack. She is a retired chiropractic physician; Board member and Medical Director of PAC NW Search & Rescue. She is an EMT and a certified tracker. She is wonderfully funny, and always presents a wonderful program. If called upon, she will come find you!
Social Hour 6:30 PM, program starts 7 PM Please bring a snack to share or $1 donation to defray costs. Guests are welcome!
Location: Rose Villa Rec Hall, Fireside Room. 13505 SE River Rd, Milwaukie. Parking on Shroeder Lane, off of Courtney Rd by River Rd. Park before end of road, walk to multiple garage bldgs on rt, turn right, walk down ramp to your right. It is a yellow bldg, with a central arch on top, visible from River Rd

Jan 17 (Sat) Bird Butte Snowshoe Tour - Class Stiff A

Nice mix of on and off-trail snowshoe travel through deep timber to an isolated summit with limited views. Bring a hot beverage and leave cotton clothing at home. Suggested carpool donation will be 15 cents/per person/ per mile ($15). Vehicles will need to display a SnoPark permit. Jan 18 (Sun) Mt. Hood XC Ski - Class B Updated!

Starting from the summit parking lot we'll take the road towards Trillium lake. Distance we'll be determined by weather conditions, but would like to do six to eight miles. We'll go out, do a little loop, then take same road back. Not planing on going around the lake. Road goes through the woods and has many short small hills along the first part. Needed....snow park permit, car pool fees, lunch.

Jan 17-19 (Sat-Mon) Tyee Open for MLK Weekend

It’s a family friendly weekend at Tyee Lodge. Ski, snowshoe, play in the snow, enjoy the sledding hill or just relax by the fire. Sign up by Wednesday, Jan 14th.

Jan 28 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B

We begin our hike at 9:30 am and hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, somewhere in the Portland metropolitan area, often in Forest Park. We then have lunch at a nearby cafe.
Our hike this morning goes up to Council Crest and back.
Depart: 9:45 am from the intersection of SW Spring St. and SW 18th Ave. Plenty of parking in the neighborhood around here. If you need an address, Vista Springs Café is down the street and will be the lunch location.

Jan 30-Feb 2, 2015 (Fri-Mon) Cascade Prime Timers and Trails Club at Tyee Lodge

Three nights and four days at Tyee Lodge with Hosts: Pete & Elaine Nelson and cook: Nancy Overpeck. Lodge will be open by 11 AM on Friday. There is plenty of snowshoeing and X-country skiing right outside the door. Overnight Fri, Sat, Sun, Jan 30-Feb 1. Meals: Dinner on Fri, Sat, Sun. Breakfast on Sat, Sun, Mon. Bring you own lunches. Cost: $60 for TCO members, $75 for non-members. Bring sleeping bag, clothes, toiletries, towel, and washcloth. Bring snowshoes and/or X-country skis depending on snow conditions.
MEET 10 AM at Restroom on east side of Government Camp or meet at 10:10 AM on Timberline Road.

Jan 31 (Sat) Government Camp Snowshoe – Class A

Meet at Tyee Lodge and depart at 10 AM. Snowshoe in the Government Camp area. Return to Tyee for hot drinks around the fire.
Carpool transportation from Portland not set up for this event as the leaders are staying at Tyee.
