All visitors and Trails Club members are encouraged to enjoy the great Northwest outdoors by selecting a hike, bike ride or other event from this calendar. Gentle Reminders provides explanation of hike difficulty and hike guideline. Detail description of common meeting is available at Meeting Places.

Week-1

Aug 2 (Wed) Morning Hike – Class A/B

We begin our hike at 9:30 AM and hike 4 to 6 miles, for 2 to 4 hours, somewhere in the Portland metropolitan area, often in Forest Park.
This week's hike will meet at Sellwood Riverfront Park.

Aug 2 (Wed) Evening Hike – Class B

We will hike from 6 PM until 8 PM-ish in Forest Park and the West Hills. Please carry a flashlight or headlamp and dress for changeable weather. Parking is limited; arrive early to find a spot, sign and pay the hike fee.
Cost: $1 for Trails Club and Mazama members; $2 non-members.
Meet: at Wallace Park between NW 25th and 26th on Raleigh. We leave at 6 PM sharp!
Class A: Approximately 4-5 miles with less than 500 foot elevation gain.

Aug 3 (Thu) Springwater Trail to Boring Bike - Class A

We will ride the eastern part of the Springwater Corridor, the part we never do! The ride is slightly uphill on the way out and downhill on the way back, all on bike path. Total distance is 20 miles. We will ride from SE 145th out to Boring, have lunch at the Not So Boring Bar and Grill and then ride back. Call or email with questions. I don’t ride in the rain or the excessive heat. If it looks like it is going to be really hot that day, let me know via email that you are interested in the ride, and we may decide to start earlier. In any case, if weather is iffy, you can call my cell to check if ride is a go.
Meet: On SE 145th between the Springwater Corridor and SE Ellis St., ready to depart at 10 am. This is just on the west side of Powell Butte Nature Park. Only way in is on SE Ellis St. Make sure you are NORTH of the Springwater Corridor. Google map the intersection of SE Ellis and SE 145th and you should find it. Make a RIGHT on 145th from Ellis and drive down to the bottom of the hill. Look for us right next to the entrance of the Springwater Corridor.

Aug 5 (Sat) Umbrella Falls Hike - Class A

This 4.7 loop hike gains 600 feet and visits a lovely waterfall. The hike is scheduled as part of the art weekend at Tyee but is open to all.
Meet: 9:30 AM at the Government Camp Parking Lot (where the restrooms are). Call me or text me at 503-422-8896 if you are joining us.

Aug 4-6 (Fri-Sun) Tyee Arts Weekend

Tyee open Friday and Saturday nights. Bring your arty stuff, reserve bunks, dinners for Fri eve, Sat breakfast, Sat dinner and Sunday breakfast. Lunches are on your own. Stretch out with our artsy yoga instructor to help wake up if you like. Hike to Umbrella Falls , 4.4 miles Sat at 9:30 AM from Government Camp rest area at Summit Ski hill with leader Dianna Forester if you wish. Get the beautiful flora, mountain, lake, creeks, lodge on paper or any media.

Aug 4-6 (Fri-Sun) Nesika (make-up) work trip

This is a make up work trip for the one missed in July secondary to the Oneonta Gorge Fire. We will be putting concentration on getting the forms poured on the west side of the Women's Dorm. Bring saws and wood working tools; drills, hammer, etc. Those not working on the women's dorm can clear trails. We also need digging to be done working on the installation of the men's dorm outhouse lighting system coordinated by Lynn Cochran.
Gate will be open at 9:00 AM Fri. morning, 6:30 PM on Friday and 9:00 AM on Saturday.

Aug 10 (Thu) Banks-Vernonia State Park Bike - Class B

This ride is all off road on paved trail from Banks to Vernonia and back. It is mostly flat with one short hill down and up. The trail is 21 miles from Banks to Vernonia and we retrace our route back for a total of 42 miles. An alternate version can start at the Buxton trail head which makes the ride 14 miles shorter. We will have lunch in Vernonia where you can buy food/drink or eat your home-made lunch.

Aug 18-20 (Fri-Sun) Nesika Work Trip

Concentration will be on the women's deck, possibly starting the rock laying for the main lodge front deck. There will be trail clearing and of course more digging for laying the wiring for the men's outhouse lighting system coordinated by Lynn Cochran. This work trip will be run by Randy Dietrich.

Aug 18-20 (Fri-Sun) Tyee Open

Join us for a fun summer weekend at Tyee Lodge which will qualify you for Trails Club of Oregon membership. There will be a variety of activities to choose from, including hikes, swimming, and outdoor games. We ask that each guest bring a picnic side dish and we will hold a pie judging contest with a blue ribbon - bring us your best! Tyee will be open by 4 PM Friday and remain open until 2 PM Sunday. Dinner Saturday and Breakfast Sunday will be provided with leftovers for Lunch on Sunday

August 19 (Sat) Old Cornelius Pass/Old Germantown Roads Bike - Class C

This hilly ride explores the farmland and hills on roads north of Bethany including Phillips Rd., Old Cornelius Pass Rd., Skyline Blvd., and old Germantown Rd. Total distance is approximately 25 miles, with cumulative elevation gain about 1,800 feet.
Meet: 9 AM at Bethany Lake Park, NW 185th Ave. just south of West Union Rd. Park in small gravel lot on west side of 185th, or if full, try the shopping center lot at the NE corner of 185th & West Union.

Aug 24 (Thurs) Trolley Trail Bike Ride - Class A

We will go at a leisurely pace from Milwaukie to Gladstone, cross the Clackamas River and return via River Road to our starting point. Bring a snack to eat half way through, there are new carts at the Milwaukie Orange Line max station, also some nice restaurants nearby for lunch at the end of the ride which is about 15 miles.

Aug 25-26 (Fri-Sat) Elk Cove Backpack - Class B

We’ll access Elk Cove on the north side of Mount Hood via the Vista Ridge Trail and the Timberline Trail. The views great once we reach the Timberline Trail and Wyeast Basin. Scenery should include the north face of Mount Hood, Mount Adams, Saint Helens, and Mount Rainier. Elk Cove itself is quite picturesque with views of the north side of Mount Hood. We’ll spend the night at Elk Cove and explore the area if we have time.
Mileage will be approximately 4 ½ each way with about 1700 feet of elevation gain going in and about a 400 foot loss into Elk Cove.

Aug 26 (Sat) Puget Island Bike - Class B

This is a ride of 37.2 flat miles exploring Puget Island and White Tailed Deer Sanctuary. Pack a lunch, snacks and plenty of water. Puget Island Ride with GPS : https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14894959
Depart: 10:45 AM from Puget Island near the ferry terminal.
The Oscar B Ferry departs from the Westport (OR) end every hour at 15 mins past the hour. So you would want to be there before the 10:15 AM departure. Allow time for parking and getting you bikes on to the ferry. Cost is $2 per bike. http://cathlametchamber.com/visitor-info/ferry-schedule/

Aug 27 (Sun) Trails Club Picnic

TCO members and future members are invited to a Trails Club of Oregon Picnic to be held at Gabriel Park. This will be a potluck-style get-together so bring your favorite dish. We will provide hamburgers and hotdogs, non-alcoholic drinks, condiments and dishes. Come and enjoy the park and your club friends.
