Jeff Churchill volunteered to chair the social committee. The board voted to appoint him to the
position via email on 12/1/24.

Our insurance policies were renewed in December.
Eric will work with the board on getting access to the fidelity and financial accounts to maintain separation of responsibilities for the treasurer.

Nothing new to report.
Nesika Report, Pete
Dorm insulation was completed. The tractor starter was ordered and installed by Bob Walker.
The padlock on main gate was reported missing by a TCO member. Pete Recksiek replaced it the following weekend. Propane and diesel was delivered by Glen Conrad and brought in by Bob Walker after he repaired the tractor. The diesel generator had run dry on oil and now sounds irregular. If it makes it through the winter, we will need to have a diesel mechanic look at it in spring. The water system is drained and lodge is winterized.
Nesika key issues:
On Friday, a member going in to Nesika reported our taped lock missing from the main gate at milepost 10 on Larch Mountain Road. The gate was pinned, and the metal hasp and Forestry Service lock were sitting in the bottom of the gate housing. There was no evidence of a cut lock nearby, or damage to the gate. This seems to be the result of vandalism or negligence by a Trails Club member. If anyone is aware of this mishap, please contact Pete. He spent half of a Sunday installing a new lock and went all the way into the lodge to check on it. Joel reported there are 50 Nesika keys for active members. 8 keys are with deceased members and 17 keys with inactive members. (At one time the $20 deposit was an incentive to return them.) 16 keys are missing from the roster between 401 and 491: 434, 440, 441, 442, 443, 448, 454, 457,458, 460, 464, 472, 476, 486, 488, 489. It would be very difficult to issue new keys. The last time we issued new keys for Tyee, it took years, and did not improve lodge control.
Tyee Report, Paul
Twelve people stayed the first weekend of November with Lori and Nancy as cooks. The second weekend was the pre-Thanksgiving dinner with turkeys cooked by Paul C and an array of potluck dishes provided by 24 other attendees. Tom Thrall and his band finished off the day on a very good note. Sunday midday that weekend saw a heavy snowfall. Consequently, Paul received an email from the Forest Service stating West Leg Road was to be closed 2 weeks early. An ongoing storm drainage problem needs to be resolved next year. When it rains heavily with snow built up on the ground, the basement is inclined to flood near the wood chute. This usually occurs in late spring but has happened twice in November this year.
Trips Report, Craig
November was a slow trips month. During the online TCO Hike Leaders Zoom Meeting, we discussed having a winter in-person get together near downtown Portland as an informal TCO Meetup event. Craig G will look into finding a venue. The TCO Stormy Trails Restoration Committee continued maintenance on the Cougar Rock trail, the High Water trail, and the Ornament Trail, as well as the Nesika trail connector to Franklin Ridge. Recent scouting reports have shown these trails to be clear of obstacles. TCO members volunteered with TKO to repair a significant landslide on the Larch Mtn trail.

501c3 Status, Lori Leach
The revised Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation were approved at the Annual Meeting. Lori has sent the forms to the State. If the State approves, it then goes to the IRS for approval.

For activities such as bicycle, snowshoe, and XC skiing check with the leaders for the difficulty level. Good equipment for the specific activity is required for all events. For hikes, snowshoes:
|
- Class A - Shorter, less strenuous activity, typically 4 to 8 miles, less than 1500 feet elevation gain.
- Class B - Moderate to difficult, typically 6 to 12 miles, up to 3000 feet of elevation gain.
- Class C - Long and difficult, strong experienced participants only, typically over 8 miles, and over 3000 feet of elevation gain. Boots are recommended for B/C hikes.

Harsh conditions may increase the exertion and skill required; be prepared. Contact the trip leader if you have any questions and to let him or her know that you will be attending. Bring the 10 Essentials and please, no alcohol. Pets allowed on designated trips only.
|
Stay with the group and follow the leader. The leader is responsible for the group's safety. The leader determines which route is taken. The leader has authority to determine if a participant is prepared for the activity. Group safety must come first.
|
|
|
There is no charge to Trails Club members for day activities; non-members pay $2. Please contribute to any carpooling expenses at the rate of $.20 per mile. With multiple riders the driver can collect up to $.50 per mile shared by all the riders. Other fees may apply.
|
If you have RSVP'd for an activity at a lodge involving food expense and are unable to participate, you are obligated to do one of the following: Cancel before the food is purchased, find someone to take your place, or pay for your share of the food.
|
All activities must be approved by the appropriate activity coordinator or the Trips Trustee.

The purpose of the Trails Club is to foster and stimulate interest in hiking, climbing, skiing, camping and
other similar outdoor activities and to promote activities of a social nature for the benefit of its members.
The Club’s interests and concerns are conservation of natural beauty and resources of the country.
All Club activities are affected by the voluntary participation of the members.
Membership requirements include an approved outdoor activity, a scheduled lodge visit, recommendations by two members within a one-year period, approval by the Board of Trustees, and payment of $50 in dues and a $15 entrance fee.

There is also a Trails Club Meetup site that allows event planners to organize TCO events online, and
publicize these events to a wider audience (Meetup.com/Trails-Club-ofOregon/events/).
However, all events posted on the TCO Meetup site should be added to our TCO website as well.
While we try to get every event in the Trail Blazer and on the Trails Club website (www.trailsclub.org), some events, especially those planned on short notice, may not appear in The Blazer.
Use the Calendar menu item for a listing of events.
Registration on the website is not required to view the events.
Also: All may use the Payment menu item on our website to pay your membership dues.
You can pay for all members in a household in one transaction.
