Silver Falls Backcountry Loop Hike

Silver Falls Backcountry Loop – Wednesday May 17th 10am-3pm

Come explore the beautiful backcountry of Oregon’s Silver Falls State Park on this moderate “B” hike traversing parts of the Buck Mountain and Smith Creek Trails (an 8 mile loop with approximately 900′ elevation gain). No waterfalls this time, but instead we will see many giant trees 7-10′ in diameter while walking on a pleasant trail through a lovely old growth forest. We will hike at 2-2.5 mph with rest stops and a lunch break.

Bring your lunch and 10 essentials, including rain gear. Hiking boots are also recommended, as there may be some muddy sections depending on recent rain.

Those wishing to carpool should meet in the parking lot of REI Tualatin (7410 SW Bridgeport Road, Tigard OR 97224) at 8:30 am. We will then travel south to the Smith Creek Village area of Silver Falls Park, where we will gather in the large parking area adjacent to the building complex there. My vehicle is a white 2008 Toyota Tacoma pickup. A state parking pass will be required on all vehicles. Please be on time so that we can begin hiking promptly at 10 am.

This is a Trails Club of Oregon event which is free to members. There is a $2 fee for non-members which will be collected at the trailhead. Those carpooling should also contribute $0.15/mile to the driver (or $0.30/mile collectively if there are multiple riders).
