Letter from the President

Dear fellow club members and friends.

Your Board president is worried and stressed out about the condition of the club. I have begun to wake up regularly with “stress dreams.” (Such as: I have invited everyone to Thanksgiving, and they are all here, but the turkey isn’t in the oven and I don’t have any of the side dishes, etc. You get it.) I am burned out, but I am afraid to leave my role as president this year when my second 2 year term expires, because I feel that things are too uncertain for this club.

Our membership has shrunk during my years of involvement in the club. When I started, vacant positions on the Board were filled by a nominating committee and then voted at the annual meeting. We cannot even get volunteers to form a nominating committee. Board positions go unfilled for years at a time. We beg for candidates AT the annual meeting, instead of voting them in.

We have a fabulous social chairperson this year who has planned really fun quarterly events which are attended by less than 10% of our members.

We have been improving our lodges and having fun work party weekends, and yet they sit empty the large majority of the time.

When we have really hard working, effective people chairing our positions, they get burned out, and are unable to complete effective training of their replacements, because we can’t find volunteers to assist or replace them.

THIS IS A CALL to action! Our Club needs you to help us be a fun community of friends who support each other. We need your time and skills as well as your memberships. We need you to bring your friends, children, and grandchildren to our club activities, our lodges, and our annual meeting. We need volunteers on the board.

This board has been working harmoniously, effectively, and supportively for the past few years. It has been my great good fortune to work with these amazing volunteers. In the past, there have been boards that were FAR less functional; I am so glad to say that is no longer true!

We especially need
A TREASURER: anyone with simple book-keeping skills.
A TYEE LODGE Chairperson: you will have back-up, training, & support from our last dedicated Lodge Chair, Paul Cutter!
An EDUCATION & OUTREACH Chairperson: We can help you figure out this role. It is integral to our Club’s growth and mission. It’s a good fit for someone who is outgoing and passionate about inclusivity.

You can volunteer for possible election at the annual meeting to these positions by emailing your willingness to

Please consider how you can support your club to help it continue for the next 100+ years. Please attend our annual meeting Sunday November 16th 2-4pm at the new Scout Office in Beaverton.

Thanks for your support,

Bev Drottar
TCO Board President
