Winter Ski/Snowshoe Outing near Mt. Bachelor

This will be an organized, four-day Nordic ski and snowshoe outing based out of remote Elk Lake Resort, located on the Cascade Lakes Highway west of Mt. Bachelor, Oregon. Participants will gather at the Dutchman Flat Sno-Park adjacent to the mountain on Friday afternoon 2/12/2027, and be shuttled by heated snowcat 11 miles into the Elk Lake Lodge, where we will check into our cabin accommodations at 4:00 pm (alternatively, one may choose to ski into the Resort the 11 miles if they so desire, keeping in mind that sunset will occur around 5:30 pm on that date). Dinner service will be available by reservation on Friday and Saturday evenings at the Lodge restaurant, with breakfast and lunch offerings available Saturday through Monday. The cabins will also be equipped with kitchens where we can prepare our own food. Checkout will be at 10:00 am on Monday 2/15/2027, after which we will return by snowcat to our vehicles.

The Elk Lake Resort maintains a 7-mile trail for skiers and snowshoers around scenic Elk Lake, and offers many miles of other trails for backcountry adventure. Outstanding views of the Three Sisters, Mt Bachelor and Broken Top mountains will fill the skyline, and, if we’re lucky with the weather, a deep starry sky will grace the night.

Time is of the essence, as we will be making advance cabin reservations (which tend to fill up quickly) for all participants, and will need anyone interested in this trip to sign up no later than November 12, 2026. We will do our very best to arrange appropriate accommodation for all singles and couples on a first-come-first-served basis, and upon cabin availability. Priority will be given to TCO members and their spouses/significant others.

Once were have a finalized list of participants, an email group will be formed so that we can sort out the details and arrange carpooling and other concerns before the trip. Expenses for cabin accommodations, carpooling and snowcat transport will be shared equally among all participants, with estimated individual cost for the adventure (not including meals) approximately $400-500.
