Carl Lake Backpack 6/15-6/17

This will be an exploratory 3-day, 2-night backpack into the Carl Lake area south of Mt. Jefferson. I have a Central Cascades Wilderness permit for four people including myself. Day One 6/15 we will carpool at REI Tualatin, 7410 SW Bridgeport Rd Tigard at 8:30am, drive to the Cabot Lake TH in the Mt Jefferson Wilderness, and hike into Carl Lake on a good trail (5 miles, 1000′). There we will set up camp for two nights. Day Two 6/16 we will explore Shirley Lake and hopefully hike to the top of South Cinder Peak (4-6 miles, 1250′), with great views up and down the Cascade range. Bring microspikes for the possibility of some late-season snow atop South Cinder Peak (6746′). Day Three 6/17 we’ll hike out and return to town. Approximately 300 miles round trip driving distance, NW Forest Pass required. This is not a beginner hike – all participants should have prior backpacking experience.
