Carl & Table Lake Backpack
Carl and Table Lakes Backpack, September 15-17
This will be a 3-day, 2-night backpack into the remote heart of the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. On Monday 9/15 we will drive to the Cabot Lake TH north of Santiam Pass and hike into beautiful Carl Lake, where we’ll set up a base camp for two nights (5 miles, 1000′ elevation gain). Tuesday 9/16 we’ll day-hike north to the seldom visited Table and Upper Table Lakes area and then return to our base camp (9.5 miles RT, 1500′ cumulative elevation gain). Wednesday 9/16 we’ll break camp and return home. An optional side trip to the summit of South Cinder Cone, with its expansive views of the central Cascade Range, may also be considered, if there is sufficient interest from the group (3 miles RT, 1200′ elevation gain).
Come prepared for a few mosquitoes around the lakes, and bring a swimsuit and towel if you might like to take a dip in the clear, cold waters of Carl Lake.
Our plan will be to meet at the Tualatin REI, 7410 SW Bridgeport Road, Tigard at 8:00 am on Monday 9/15, and then carpool to the TH from there. Any extra cars can be left in the NW corner of the REI parking lot. Riders should plan to reimburse their drivers $.15/mile individually or $.30/mile collectively.
This is a Trails Club of Oregon event, for experienced backpackers only. Please plan to be self-sufficient. A NW Forest Pass will be needed for all cars parking at the Cabot Lake TH.
