Deschutes River Backpack; Macks Canyon to Mouth of Deschutes River: Friday March 27th to Sunday March 29th

We will meet at Pendleton Woolen Mills at 7:00 AM in Washougal WA, There is a safe place for cars.  We will then carpool to Macks Canyon.
Cars to be shuttled by Linda’s Shuttle Service in Maupin. If you are planning on driving please get on line and register your vehicle.
I will let her know there will be 2-3 cars to be shuttled and that you will be getting ahold of her through her Web Page.
Cost of shuttle is .20 per mile to driver.  Cost of shuttle per car is $125 divided by the number of people going.

Be prepared for cold nights.  You will need tent, sleeping bag, cook stove and pans, 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners and 2 lunches.
Have a designated sleeping outfit which consists of long johns, down pants, down coat.  Ensure insulation under sleeping bag; waffle pad and blow up pad.  Sleeping bag liners are also nice.
Flash light and first aid kit along with hat, gloves and rain coat needed.

Sights: big horn sheep, deer, otters, raccoons, probably not snakes, maybe ticks.  I like to spray my gear with Sawyers before I go to limit the possibility of ticks.
If you are bringing your dog I need to approve before hike and the driver would also need to approve a dog.

Day 1:  we only do 6 miles but it is in and out of old railroad culverts which take a little extra time. First night no bath rooms.  Please be prepared to carry out or burn TP and bury feces.
To burn we will need to set up a ground protectant.  Also if there is a wind, no burning.  If cold, a three season tent is nice or an extra tarp over your tent.

Spring is beautiful with the trees just starting to sprout.  If anyone is interested we can take the high trail going out which provides a fantastic view of the Deschutes gorge.
