Introduction to Food Dehydration for Backpacking

Join us for a 3 day weekend to learn how to dehydrate food from easy to find ingredients, to prepare meals from what we dehydrate, and to have fun while learning.
Whether you are a seasoned backpacker who has prepared your own food for years or are just starting to dip your fingers into the world of food preparation for backpacking, this event is the perfect opportunity to begin or to enhance what you know.
There will be opportunity for round table and sharing of ideas among participants.
We will go out for a few hours Saturday afternoon for a hike while our food is dehydrating.
Event Goals:
-Introduce participants to dehydration basics, with five take home meals
-Introduce participants to safe food prep and storage.
-Cold soak options will be provided.
-References for additional learning will be provided, such as names of names of books we have used, websites we use to order special ingredients and names of local stores where some of the ingredients can be found.
We have two speakers, Sanjana Sachdeva, co author of the backpacking cookbook Memorable Backcountry Meals and Nellie Long, Master Food Preserver and will have another Master Food Preserver to support and assist.
***There will be no experts in nutrition present. We are not paid experts, but enthusiastic and experienced backpackers excited to share what we have learned.
Participants must pay in full in advance to secure a spot. If you are unable to stay the full seminar you will miss out on taking your meals with you.
Delicious meals: While attending the workshop enjoy meals prepared by our talented culinary team, and savor the opportunity to chat with fellow backpackers.

All who sign up will be placed on Waitlist until full payment has been confirmed, then they will be moved to going.

This event is available for dues paying TCO members and non-members. Members will be given first preference.

++Fee includes two nights overnight lodging and meals for the weekend (from Friday lunch through Sunday lunch) plus all supplies needed for the seminar.
PLEASE answer both Meetup questions to sign up. One is specific to Food Preferences.
++++Non members who sign and up and pay the initial membership rate of $65 the same weekend will have the member rates, plus, Their membership would start 11/1/24 and continue through 2025, fourteen months.
Please bring a dehydrator and Instapot if you have one. This is not a requirement for attendance. We will have as many on hand as possible.
Please bring sleeping bag and towels and toiletries. Lodge does not provide linens or bedding.
Please bring comfortable hiking shoes and the ten essentials for our Saturday afternoon hike. We are not paid professionals, but enthusiastic volunteers, Each participant is responsible for their own safety.
