Newberry Ski Weekend March 13-15, 2026
This will be an organized ski adventure into the beautiful Newberry National Volcanic Monument south of Bend. Participants will carpool down to the 10 Mile Snopark and ski 3 miles on a groomed trail into the Paulina Lake Resort, where we will have arranged heated cabin accommodations. From there, a day outing along Paulina and East Lakes, and/or (hopefully) a ski tour up and down 7,897’ Paulina Peak on a graded summit road (8 miles RT, 1,570’ elevation gain) may be undertaken. The views from the top of Paulina Peak are amazing!
The area does get some snowmobile traffic, but the groomed trails are quite wide so there is room for everyone. The Paulina Lake Lodge offers cooked meals on Friday and Saturday nights, and has a full bar. Rental cabins have kitchen facilities, as well.
Participants should plan to bring warm winter clothing along with backcountry skis and/or snowshoes, and be in good physical condition. We will be skiing into the Resort wearing backpacks and/or pulling sleds. I will need to know how many people are interested by December 5, in order to be able to make cabin reservations. We will plan to share the cost of cabin rentals equally (I would estimate this will run somewhere around $150-200/person).
Please let me know by email <tom_thrall@hotmail> if you are interested!
