Old Snowy Backpack And Mtn Climb

Have you ever wanted to climb a non technical-glaciated peak in the NW? Well this one is very doable and has quite a reward!
The Goat Rocks Wilderness in Washington has some of the most beautiful scenery available to us and Old Snowy has a little bit of everything.
This hike is very popular on the weekends so this is why we are offering this as a mid week event.
We will drive up Wednesday morning, August 10th from the Portland area. From there, we will drive to the Chambers Lake Campground Trailhead off of FR 21. Our plan is to backpack up to Snowgrass Flats which offers stunning views of Mt Adams and the Goat Rocks massif to the east . Snowgrass from the trailhead is about 4.5 miles and 1200 feet of elevation gain. We will day hike Thursday to the summit of Old Snowy which is and additional 2500 ft gain and 9 miles. Here we will be treated to an ” in your face” view of Mt Rainier just to the north and a direct view of Adams to the south. There will be some moderate scrambling near the top. We will enjoy the summit and more of snowgrass flats Thursday evening. This hike presents major photo opportunities. There will be likely be a dinner stop in Packwood or nearby town on the way home Friday evening.
Carpooling- we can set up a facebook messenger group or other to coordinate this

Everyone must be self sufficient. A good attitude and a spirit for adventure will go a long way to making this a successful event.

TCO Meetup leaders are volunteers. Keeping the group together on this activity and safety are our priorities. If we do these things we will have an awesome time.
