Ornament Trail and 1931 Buick from Multnomah Falls – Christmas Eve hike

***PLEASE READ THIS***

Greetings –

Want to hang Holiday ornaments before Christmas on the Ornament Trail? Well then, let’s go!

NOTE: I respectfully request Covid-vaccinated attendees only.

We will be starting early from the Multnomah Falls parking lot to hike the Ornament Trail and hang ornaments. The safest route will be taken.

If the weather is reasonable and the snow is not too deep, we can head over to see the long-abandoned 1931 Buick offtrail. This part of the hike is highly dependent upon the weather.

If the snow levels are too high before reaching the Ornament Trail, we will turn around. Safety first.

MEETUP POINT: You are responsible for arranging travel to the Meetup point. We shall meet 730am in front of the Multnomah Falls gift shop. I plan to start hiking at 745am sharp.

DISTANCE: approx 7-8 miles
ELEVATION GAIN: approx 1800 ft
WATER CROSSINGS: Winter Creek (you will get your feet wet)

Dogs can join by permission only. Understand this is a snow hike and may not be safe conditions for dogs.

What to bring:
– A holiday ornament!
– Micro spikes or foot traction (ie: boot chains) for icy conditions.
– Hiking gear for a rainy/snowy day (hat, gloves, extra socks, gaiters)
– Hiking poles recommended
– Lunch, snacks, water
– Mask

We will almost certainly hit snow, so be prepared for cold, wet weather.
We will stop by Nesika Lodge and eat on the porch, but will not be going inside.

This is a Trails Club of Oregon event which is free to members and $2 for non members.

I expect we shall be down by mid-afternoon, but I cannot guarantee any specific return time. The group shall stay together.

Disclaimer: Keep in mind, you are responsible for your own health and safety during and on the way to and from this event. Be informed and plan to be self-sufficient. Practice leave no trace, bring 10 essentials, research trail conditions, etc.

Feel free to ask questions on this Meetup event post.

The hiking route may be modified to accommodate any known trail closures or icy conditions. This may lengthen the hiking distance. For example, if we must descend Wahkeena Trail.
