Pamelia/Shale Lake Loop Backpack

This will be a three-day, two-night exploratory “B” level backpack into the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness. I have a permit for up to four hikers including myself. We will start at the Pamelia lake Trailhead and hike into Hunts Cove for the first night (7 miles, 2350′ elevation gain). On the second day, we’ll hike to Shale/Mudhole Lake area to camp and explore (4 miles, 1100′). Third day we’ll follow the PCT back to Pamelia Lake and return to the car (7.5 miles).

This is a trails Club event which is free to members (there is a $2 fee for non-members). It is intended for experienced backpackers only, who are comfortable with significant elevation gain and the the possibility of overnight temperatures down near freezing at camp.

We will meet in the parking lot of REI Tualatin (7410 SW Bridgeport Road, Tigard OR 97224) at 8am. Those carpooling should plan to contribute $0.15/mile to the driver, or $0.30 collectively if there are multiple riders. Keep in mind that you are responsible for your own health and safety, both during and on the way to and from this event. Be informed and plan to be self-sufficient.
